The therapy modality I use the most is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), sometimes referred to as "talk therapy". In CBT we work together so you can learn how to recognize, in yourself, persistent patterns of negative thoughts or beliefs that influence how your interact with your world (including, but not limited to family, friends, school, and/or work). Identifying maladaptive coping and response mechanisms is your first step to overcoming them and developing healthier ways to manage relationships and life's challenges. Specific skill building activities include developing healthy boundaries, learning how to communicate effectively, and identifying what you can and can't control. We will also work on mindfulness, a simple but essential cognitive exercise.
CBT is the most commonly practiced modality and is an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and addictions. It is an effective method of treatment for couples counseling and family counseling. To supplement therapy I have an extensive library of worksheets, workbooks, information handouts (psychoeducation), guided mindfulness meditation exercises, and topic-specific journals to share with clients (I have purchased the appropriate licenses to share these resources with my clients).
I also provide Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). SFBT is short-term goal-focused counseling which focuses on developing (a) relatively quick solution(s) to (an) imminent challenge(s) rather than focusing on the source of the problems. I often incorporate SFBT into my CBT sessions.
My personal style is informal, relaxed, humorous, yet often firm and direct. Therapy isn't a game. Your mental health is important. Honesty is essential. You can trust me to be Honest, nonjudgmental, respectful, compassionate, and empathetic. You can also expect me to gently but firmly confront you if you aren't putting forth effort to achieve wellness.
